Abstract
In the evolution of Tamil poetry, a discernible progression unfolds, encompassing conventional poetry, modern poetry, prose poetry and new poetry. However, articulating their origins, growth, and decline in a strictly chronological manner proves challenging. The traditional Prosodic form, inherently rooted in communal possession, delved into themes of land, religion, and divinity. Concurrently, dissenting prose poetry emerged, deviating from the established Prosodic conventions. The coexistence and interplay of conventional, modern, and prose poetry coincided with the advent and maturation of new poetry, distinguished by its distinctive form, content, and strategic approach. Despite these historical developments, the contemporary Tamil milieu leans towards the potential prevalence of new poetry.
