Abstract

Game-based learning (GBL) is an emerging educational approach that integrates interactive elements to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. Traditional Tamil language instruction often relies on rote memorization, which can reduce motivation, particularly among middle school English medium students. This study examines students' attitudes toward game-based Tamil learning, assessing its effectiveness, engagement levels, and challenges. A survey-based methodology was employed, collecting responses from 100 middle school students (50 boys and 50 girls) using a structured questionnaire. The findings indicate that 40.53% of students have a high attitude toward game-based Tamil learning, while 33.80% remain neutral, and 25.67% show a low attitude. Boys demonstrated a significantly higher attitude (mean = 37.48) compared to girls (mean = 35.6), with a highly significant p-value (<0.001). These results suggest that boys find game-based Tamil learning more engaging, whereas girls may require additional support to benefit equally from this approach. The study highlights the need for educators to develop more inclusive and interactive Tamil learning tools that cater to diverse student preferences and learning styles.
