Abstract

The novel is approaching 150 years since its publication. Throughout this long history, novels have realistically recorded people’s lives and social and economic problems. The struggles, difficulties, joys and sorrows of human life are revealed by the inner self. In that sense, in recent times, novels published from Eelam have received special attention among the public. The reason is that the hill Tamils who were settled in Sri Lanka to work on coffee and tea plantations during the British rule, and the native Tamils who had been the majority in the northern and eastern provinces of Sri Lanka for centuries, were subjected to various forms of oppression due to the war. Currently they are living in a small minority in Eelam and are facing various critical situations due to language, ethnic discrimination, and displacement. This article describes the hardships faced by these refugees who last their relatives and belongings and became refugees.
