The novel profoundly records the sorrows and struggles of three generations of Dalit people engaged in sanitation work in Alappuzha, Kerala. It reflects the multifaceted dimensions of the social and existential struggles of the oppressed and marginalized community. One could say that “Thottiyude Makan” embodies every possible human emotion—love, hatred, anger, desire, lust, affection, deceit, betrayal, suffering, cruelty, sorrow, death, pride, compassion, prejudice, fear, tears, lamentation, slavery, hunger, starvation, disease, famine, and inferiority complex. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and interpret these diverse emotional and social dimensions depicted in the novel.
