Abstract

Chitrilakkiyam is a kind of specified literary genre in Tamil language and a literary genre that enriches the language. The poet acquires the tools of creating literature, such as language, writing, prosody and symbols from the society. In that way, the literature that appeared during the Nayak period which called as Chitrilakkiyam. Chitrilakkiyam reached a splendid position during the period of Sangam literature and the development period of Bhakti Movement. As an evidence to this, the play ‘Thirukutrala Kuravanji’ has spoken by many scholars and noble persons. The life of the Kurinji people which have been reflected in Melkannakku books of Sangam literature comprised such as divination, fortune-seeing, fortune-asking, and praying to the god to solve their afflictions of cultural traditions are today also seen as sublimes ​​in Tamil society. Chitrilakkiyam appeared excessively during the Nayak period. Among them it is one of the noteworthy plays the ‘Thirukutrala Kuravanji.’
