Abstract

Thirukkural is a special book, which is considered as the Tamil Veda. This book has been translated into many world languages, and its ideas are known worldwide. This book, which appeared during the Sangam period (300-600 AD), embodies Jain ideas and serves as a guide for the people. The teachings contained in this book are essential for human well-being and moral life.In this way, issues related to mental and physical illness are explained directly and indirectly in this book. Valluvar is a religious saint.Therefore, it is an undeniable fact that he also had the art of medicine. He is outwardly seen as a psychiatrist. When we look closely at chapter 95, 'Medicine', Valluvar is well versed in medical philosophies.
