Abstract

Tamils ​​of the Sangam period excelled not only in life but also in trade and economy it is possible to know through the Sangam literature. Among them, the book Pattinapalai, which is included in this research article, mentioned to the field in which the leader who goes on a journey is involved. It is understand that maritime trade, foreign trade, international trade are functioned with extraordinary in ancient period and barter trade also excelled. Based on this, this research article aims to describe the trade condition of the Ancient Tamils, export and import, trade connections, acquiring economic system, traditional (thinai - five-land) economy, barter economy, market economy, customs economy are explained through Pattinapalai.
