Abstract

Among the women poets of the Sangam period, Avvaiyar stands out for conveying essential moral values to society through her exemplary poems. Her verses emphasize that a life of selfless, virtuous conduct not only uplifts the individual but also contributes to the progress of society. Her poetry is deeply rooted in psychological insights, as psychology holds that the mind and behavior are inseparable. A close analysis of Avvaiyar's poems reveals her positive thinking and noble character. This article, titled “Avvaiyar’s Personality Traits (as seen in Purananuru Poems),” presents a detailed explanation of her personality. It examines her personal dignity, diplomatic skills, self-initiative, and other admirable traits, comparing them with key psychological components of personality.
