Abstract

In the pastoral lifestyles found in Sangam literature, if Kurinji refers to the pastoral hunting, then it can be understood that Mullai is centered on the pastoral life. It can be seen that the pastoral lifestyles have been recorded in literature since the Sangam period. The pastoral people are considered to be an important community. The nomadic life they lead, especially the experiences of the pastoralists, are depicted in detail in Su. Tamilchelvi's novel "Keethari". The novel highlights the traditional lifestyle based on nature and the involvement of the pastoralists in the pastoral profession. However, important changes are taking place in these lifestyles in contemporary times. This indicates the changes that have occurred in the old lifestyle based on nature. Although the traditions and customs of the pastoral community have changed over time, some adaptations still continue. This makes it clear that the pastoral community has not completely ignored their traditions. Therefore, the main objective of this article is to study the extent to which tradition and change are compatible.
