Literature is a capsule that depicts the timeline of mankind. Literature operates as a medium to identify the changes in culture adopted by mankind in various periods. The word 'Karanam’ coined by Tholkappiyar is evident that the rituals originated only after 'Poi and Vazhu'. Karanam is the origin of Rituals. The practice and rituals of marriage ceremonies vary in each group of people generally termed as Clan. This article emphasises the Marriage Ceremonies adopted by mankind, which symbolizes their culture. Further, this article distinguishes the practices and rituals of marriage ceremonies performed by the Clans such as Arasu clans, Arakkar clans, Vedic clans, Yadav clans, Suda clans and Nagar clans. The practice of wearing the Mangala sutra (THALI) in the name of the Lord and Agni are evidentiary to the marriage performed by them. Each clan have different styles of Mangala sutra. Palm Leaf Thali represents the Arasu clan, Stone Chain Thali represents the Yadav clan, and Tarpai Thali represents the Vedic clan. Thos in the marriage ceremony the various clans are of the same nature and differ in the various rituals according to their clans. All the rituals are followed and performed to bring prosperity to the marital life. This article explains in detail, the marriage ritual followed by the Clans through the characters of VENMURASU, the novel penned by renowned writer Mr Jeyamohan.
